Her real name is Helena Akhter. When she married a businessman named Jahangir Alam in 1990, Jahangir became associated with her name. She is the mother of three children.
She was born on 29 August 1964 in Tejgaon, Dhaka. Father Abdul Haq Sharif was the captain of the ship. Helena Jahangir grew up in Madarbari, Sadarghat area of Halishahar in Chittagong due to her father’s job. She studied at the local Krishnachura school. After her father got a promotional offer for a job, Helena returned to the village with her mother.
Helena was married to Jahangir Alam in the eighth grade. Jahangir is associated with the name. Helena Jahangir continued her studies in her husband’s family; finished postgraduate. Then she began her entrepreneurial life.
Standing next to helpless people for several days, she became known as Sister Helena Jahangir, a social worker. She has participated in talk shows in the media at various times as a social worker and woman entrepreneur. Helena is also in charge of about a dozen social organizations. Helena Jahangir was a member of the sub-committee on women’s issues of the Awami League. She was dropped from the committee after the recent incident. She was the advisor of Comilla district Awami League.She also accompanied the Prime Minister on several trips abroad.
Although she is currently involved in Awami League politics, there are reports of her involvement in Jatiyo Party and BNP. Helena Jahangir’s picture with the leaders of the two parties Khaleda Zia and Hussain Mohammad Ershad has been published on social media Facebook.
Helena Jahangir took the initiative to elect the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation in 2015 as a rival of the late mayor Anisul Haque. She then claimed that she had no political party. She wants to do individual politics. Although she later withdrewed from the election.
