Local potters are busy making idols of Goddess Durga ahead of the autumn Durga Puja festival in Nagarpur, Tangail. They are working tirelessly day and night to make idols and hand them over to the worshipers. Durga Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, is held in the autumn of each year and preparations for the puja celebrations are well underway.
The puja will start on October 6 through Shubh Mahalaya and all the puja mandals of the upazila have already completed the preparations for the puja celebration. The formality of this year’s Durgotsab will end with the sixth puja on October 11 and Shubh Vijaya Dashmi on October 15.
On the spot, visiting the houses of various idol makers of the upazila, it is seen that the work of making idols is going on with the main material of making idols, adhesive soil and other necessary materials including bamboo-straw. According to the Nagarpur Upazila branch of the Jatiya Puja Udyapan Parishad, about 128 idols are being made for the entire upazila this time. Idol artist Nindu Pal said, “This time I have received orders to make 13 idols and my colleagues are working day and night to make idols.” According to the price, the fee is determined according to the size and decoration of each idol.
Nagarpur Nangina Bari Bakali Para Puja Celebration Committee President Shyamal Bakali said, First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt greetings to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Nagarpur Hindu community. We made the idol about 1 month ago and have already completed all the preparations for the puja celebration. We have received all the cooperation from Nagarpur administration and adequate security exists.
