Cultivation At Eidgah Field In Gauripur. Human Chain In Protest

Mymensingh Correspondent: Locals of Mymensingh’s Gauripur Bokainagar Union have staged a human chain and demonstration procession to protest the cultivation and protection of the Eidgah ground by occupying the centenary Eidgah ground in the village of Short West.

The program was celebrated in the municipal town on Tuesday afternoon. At the end of the program, a memorandum was issued along with the UNO on the four-point demand. The demands are: freeing the occupation of Eidgah ground, taking measures to collect Eid Jamaat in a peaceful atmosphere at Eidgah ground, forming a new committee by changing the committee of Eidgah ground and stopping cultivation in Eidgah ground.

Former President of Upazila Chhatra League Al Muktadir Shahin, President of Short Paschimpara Government Primary School Managing Committee Azizul Haque, Abul Basar, Gazi Member, Atiqur Rahman Sumon and others spoke on the occasion.

Speakers at the program said that local resident Maulana Abdur Rahim donated 2 acres and 30 percent of the land for Eidgah ground in 1956. The ground is used for Eid congregation as well as sports. But in order to occupy the land of Eidgah field, the field trees have been cut down with the connivance of the present committee and masakalai has been cultivated by plowing. We want to remedy this.

Abdul Hakim, president of the Eidgah ground management committee, said trees have been cut down and cultivated for the development of the Eidgah ground. The allegation of occupying the Eidgah ground is not true.

UNO Hasan Maruf said he had received a memorandum about the Eidgah ground. Necessary steps will be taken after verification and selection.
