Smrity Shamsunnahar, known by her stage name Porimoni, is a Bangladeshi actress and model. Her notable films include Aro Bhalobashbo Tomay, Rokto, Pure Jay Mon and Swapnajaal.

She was featured on Asia’s 100 Digital Stars, released by Forbes magazine on 7 December 2020.

Early life

Pori Moni was born as Smriti Shamsunnahar. After losing her parents in childhood, she grew up in her grandparents’ house in Pirojpur where she completed her Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools Certificates (diplomas).

Career

Pori Moni started her career with modeling after passing her Higher Secondary School in 2012. Her popular TV commercials are Pran Up with Arifin Shuvoo, Sandalina Soap, Pran Chutney, Topper Gas Stove, Jamuna Refrigerator, etc. She acted in quite a few TV dramas as well. Her first Bengali movie, Rana Plaza, based on Rana Plaza disaster, was denied certification by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board stating that this was a national disaster and people might get wrong notions about it. Her second movie Bhalobasha Shimaheen was released on 13 February 2015. She stated, “I am putting my foot on the big screen by Bhalobasha Shimaheen and I hope everyone will like the film.” She co-starred with Shakib Khan in Aro Bhalobashbo Tomay and Dhumketu.

Personal life

In 2019, Pori was engaged to RJ Tamim Hasan, but later they broke up. On March 09 2020, Pori married movie director kamruzzaman Rony, but the marriage lasted only few months.

Controversies

On June 08 2021, Pori Moni accused Nasir Uddin Mahmood, a businessman and politician, of sexual assault on her at the Boat Club and asked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for justice on Facebook. On June 14, the main accused Mahmood along with another businessman Tuhin Siddique Omi were arrested by Bangladesh Police. A week later, Pori Moni was accused of vandalism at the Gulshan All Community Club. Club President, K.M. Alamgir Iqbal, accused Pori Moni of vandalizing the club on June 07 night at a press conference. On 04 Aug 2021, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Pori Moni with 30 bottles of foreign liquor in Dhaka.

Pori Moni is one of the popular actresses in Bangladesh film industry. She was born on 24 October of 1992. Her village name is Kaila of Narail district. When she was in three years old when she lost her mother. After few days, she went to Pirojpur district of Barisal Division where lived her grandparents. There was over her childhood. She completed her SSC and HSC from Pirojpur district of Barisal Division. Her hope was to be an actress. Her father died three years ago. Her father was a businessman.

When she passed her HSC in 2012 then she started modeling. Her career was started from there. She has worked in four Bangla drama. Among them, the drama of “2nd Innings” already have been telecasted in Television Channels.

As an actress in Bangla film, She started her career by ‘Rana Plaza’. This film based on Rana Plaza disaster. This shooting was started in 2013. RAB raids Pori Moni’s residence

Film actress Pori Moni is seeking help on Facebook live as to claiming that some people are trying to enter her residence, but she does not know them.

However, a vehicle of law enforcement agencies was seen in front of Pori Moni’s residence. Some members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were seen standing in front of her Banani residence. RAB is conducting a drive at her home.

RAB said the elite force is conducting a drive at Pori Moni’s residence based on some specific information.

Earlier, Pori Moni went on live on Wednesday (August 4) afternoon said, “Some in plain clothes are trying to enter the main gate of our residence. When asked, they replied that they are from police. Later, they broke the gate and trying to enter my residence. I phoned Banani police station as I got scared, but nobody came to my residence. I’m afraid of my life.”
